When Tabriz Faculty of Dentistry was founded in 1987, the pathology courses were taught by professors flying in from Tehran, which continued until 1995 when the first oral and maxillofacial pathologist was employed in the faculty. The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology was established in 1995 after the Faculty moved to its newly built building. In 2004 the Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Laboratory was founded in the Department. During the 2005‒2006 educational year the Department was qualified to train postgraduate students in oral and maxillofacial pathology. At present, the Department enjoys the services of one associate professor and three assistant professors. A total of 1 postgraduate students are studying in the Department at various educational levels.
