General Dentistry Course Description, Offered to Foreign Students by Faculty of Dentistry, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences

Faculty of Dentistry, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences offers an undergraduate course which leads to an academic degree in general dentistry.
 
The course consists of three stages as follows:
The first stage: This is the basic sciences period and consists of general courses and 8 units of specialty courses. The students take a comprehensive exam at the end of the course and if they are successful in this exam, they move on to the second stage of their studies.
 
The second stage: At least 180 units of courses and practical and theoretical lessons are presented during this stage and the students should take a comprehensive exam at the end of this stage. If they pass the exam, they move on to the third stage.
 
The third stage: The students in this stage complete the remaining courses and lessons and write their dissertation and present it to a jury.
 
The undergraduate course in dentistry offered by the Faculty of Dentistry, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences consists of a total of 217 units as follows:
General lessons: 24 units
Basic sciences lessons: 39 units
Specialty theoretical and practical lessons and courses: 150 units
Optional lessons: 4 units
 
In the university educational system here each year consists of two semesters, each lasting for 17 weeks. The summer semester (optional) lasts for 6 weeks.  The undergraduate course in dentistry offered by the Faculty of Dentistry, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences lasts 6 years, i.e. 12 semesters. Each theoretical lesson consists of 17 hours of classes; each practical unit consists of 34 hours of practical training; each apprenticeship work consists of 51 hours and each clinical course consists of 68 hours.
 
The lessons are presented in Persian.
 
Currently, 7 Iraqi students are studying dentistry in our faculty.
